The park derives its name Amboseli from the Maasai word meaning “salty dust”. While on safari, you will embark on scenic game drives viewing large of elephants up close rarely found anywhere in Africa earning it the name “ home of the African elephants”. You will explore the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli that lies on the western sector of the park, savannah vegetation, wetlands, woodlands, take a picnic break at the Observation Hill offering panorama views of the Amboseli plains and The Peak of Mount Kilimanjaro.


The park can be accessed by both road and air. The main access into the park is from Nairobi or Arusha via Namanga a driving distance of 240km+ on the Nairobi-Arusha Road, through the Meshanani gate. Several access roads can also lead you to the park. Accessing the park from Nairobi- Mombasa Road via Emali is approximately 228km+. You can also access the park from Mombasa through Voi and Tsavo West National Park via Olkelunyiet(Kimana) gate. By air, light aircrafts will land at Empusel gate or Kilimanjaro Buffalo Namanga Town the main airstrip is at Empusel gate

Covering 390+ Square Kilometers, Amboseli National Park will never disappoint you. On a game drive you will have the opportunity to watch Buffaloes, Giraffes, Impala, Zebra, Lion, the elusive leopard and Elephants that love to wallow in the waters with chances of spotting Hippos too. There is also a variety of birdlife in the area.


A visit to the Maasai community that live on the boundaries of the park is another highlight to tick off on your safari itinerary.  Weather permitting during of the evenings at your host property, The Maasai warriors will join you for an open-air boma chat with a campfire to showcase their authentic culture.  This is an ideal platform as you socialize with people from Africa’s most popular tribe.
